How to add Outlook PST to Mac Mail when PST format isn’t applicable in Mac Mail? Technically, it’s not possible. But you can import the data by converting them into format that is supported by Mac Mail. Here’s how.
Add Outlook PST to Mac Mail
So, you recently switched from your Windows PC to Mac. Good for you. Whatever the reason may be, you may have a little bit of housekeeping to do. Both operating systems are great in different ways. But it requires you to get used to the new platform and get your files and data migrated and sorted out correctly.
One of the most difficult things to do in the above context is getting your email data moved from Windows to Mac. Since all other files can simply be moved using an external hard drive and most of the files can be opened through several apps in Mac OS. For instance, your same media files can be opened through dozens of popular media apps available in Mac store. The documents (like PDF, TXT, etc.) are also easily accessible in Mac operating system. But with the email data files, the story is a little bit of different.
The files used by one email client may not be compatible with the other. There are few clients that share a common data file. Migrating data across them can be relatively simpler but these clients are often for the same platform. When you are switching not just an email client but also your system and platform entirely, that’s when it can be a daunting to get the emails exported.
So, how to Add Outlook PST to Mac Mail
As you may have guessed from the title above, this post is specifically about getting your Outlook data into Mac Mail, or how you can add Outlook PST to Mac Mail.
For those who don’t know, PST is a file format natively used by Outlook in Windows. PST can also be used in Mac Outlook to import data. But where you can’t use it is Mac Mail (or basically any other email client other than Outlook versions). This technically concludes to that you cannot add PST files to Mac Mail.
So, you have to rely upon other methods. Some of them can be time-consuming and not a proper way to move data. The worst part about majority of the data migration techniques is that they leave out certain portions from your database, resulting in data integrity loss. You might find many elements such as images, metadata, attachments, email address (in MIME format), and so on missing.
Luckily, there’s a simple and accurate solution. To get your Outlook data added into Mac Mail, you first need to convert PST to Mac Mail supported files. This can be done through several of the third-party converters, which is where we face the second frustrating challenge: what is a good third-party file converter?
Outlook PST to Mac Mail
For this converter to work, it should have efficient algorithms to process every data element in your Outlook PST files in order for it to convert them into Mac Mail. It also should have necessary control options, that way users can get the output files exactly as they want them. For example, you may not want to convert certain folders, or you also wish to convert your contacts and calendar data from PST files too, or you may want to ignore all empty folders and exclude them altogether.
With such requirements, it is hard to find a tool that can meet them all. If a tool does allow users to do all that, it may be incredibly hard to use. The UI of most PST to Mac Mail converters are cluttered and hard to follow, even for advanced users. And the most challenging is to get the data conversion right, in ways that do not leave a mess of data integrity loss behind. You want everything to be converted with precision and not find your folders missing, your images broken, your email addresses in contact files truncated, or your non-English text characters turned into unrecognizable thing.
For this reason, we often recommend only one tool that has got everything right. Not only does it output most precise conversion results (no data integrity loss), it also has an intuitive UI that allows you to check the settings and implement all the features efficiently without going too deep into the technicality. This tool was built by USL Software, the leading source of most efficient email migration solutions.
