OS X :: MacBook Pro Showing Restart Message
Dec 21, 2008i start up my macbook pro (only about two weeks old, bought from apple store) and the grey screen with the apple logo and a little moving cirle underneath comes on and stays on for VERY long and then a message comes up saying there has been a problem so please restart. it does not say what error. i have tried putting in the hardware diagnostic dvd but that obviousl wont run because it doesn't get past the apple logo before giving me this message. it was working five minute before and:
-there was no new drivers installed,
-i have never opened up the macbook
-no new software installed before it stopped working
-i charged it regularly and the battery was on 90+%

Mac Mini :: Restart Message - Hold Power Button / Press Restart Button
Apr 29, 2009I have just shipped my Mac Mini to its new home and I've had reports that the panic error is appearing on boot up: 'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart Button.' This screen appears on the blue window just after the grey apple screen has disappeared and does not get as far as the desktop at the same point each time. We have tried to reinstall mac OS from the original install disk but holding the 'C' Key or the 'Option' Key down on restart doesn't boot from disc. Is there a way you can view the Kernel Panic log before you boot into Mac OS so we can try and pin point the source of this problem. I'm wondering if this could have been the result of the shipping that has caused some hardware to come loose.
MacBook Pro :: Popup Message/You Need To Restart Your Computer?
Jun 23, 2009So I did read though the previous forum relating to this problem. None of the posters were having the exact issue I am, and I could not find a solution within.
my hardware: powerbook G4. 1.33GHz Power PC. (upgraded to) 2GB DDR SDRAM. (just upgraded to) 320GB WD HDD
my OS: Just installed 10.4.11
Here's the scenario (I hope someone can help):
Several months ago my poor baby took a dive off a counter onto the tile floor, while running. Never before this did I see the 'Kernal Panic' restart screen.
Immediately following the fall, I get the error if the computer is bumped, moved or if I put weight on the keyboard (palms).
I feared it was a HDD issue so I hastily replaced the toshiba 60GB HD with a WD320 HD. And at the same time I upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11.
The computer seemed fine for a couple weeks, now I am getting the error again with increasing frequency. Mostly when I put pressure on the keyboard (palms).
What I tried: new HD, new OS, checked the RAM to see if it had come loose in the fall.
Could it be my video card? Is it more likely hardware or software?

Windows On Mac :: Blue Screen Crash And Restart During Driver Install From Leopard DVD
Mar 21, 2009I've used Boot Camp to create a 32GB partition and install Windows XP (SP2 home edition) on my alu iMac (2.66 Ghz, 4GB RAM).
I used the FAT format to allow transfer of files between the Mac partition and the Windows one.
After booting Windows, I put in my original Leopard install DVD as directed, and the Boot Camp installer automatically came up.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Find Recovered Message Folder
Apr 9, 2012I have a macbook pro with a 750 GB hard disk. This was purchased only recently. Two months ago, it showed a message which said the hard disk was full. This was despite the fact that I had less than 10GB of pictures and music together.
When I spoke to Apple, they said that Yahoo mail tends to create a recovered messages folder, which he helped me locate and delete. This gave me 740Gb back.
It has happened once again. And i cant seem to lopcate this folder. I cannot find Mail folder either having gone through user/library etc.

Mac Pro :: Need To Restart Computer Message On Reboot
May 17, 2009I have a 2008 MacPro Octo 2.8GHz. Whilst I was in Vista64 (a separate drive, not visualization) I was playing a halflife game called day of defeat. The game froze twice, requiring a crtl-alt-del to release it and stop the application that was not working. When I then rebooted into OSX, the 'You need to restart your computer' screen appeared in 4 languages, which I believe is the Kernel panic screen. I've done the hardware test that reports no problems (D key). I've tried re-installing the operating system, (C key), no go just panics. I've tried a safe boot (shift) lots of disk activity followed by a panic. I've even reset the PRAM, no effect.
The queer thing is it will boot into Vista64, but there is some screen corruption whilsts its booting, but once in, it works OK with the exception of playing any 3D games, they will not launch (re-installed drivers). Vista reports that there is no 3D hardware acceleration. Does OSX require 3D just to get past the login screen? I've removed some ram and removed all the other hard drives. I'm beginning to think the 8800GT is playing up, otherwise why would vista still work?, but not 3D games? Is there any software I can use in Vista to check the 8800GT? I also noticed that it seemed to be taking longer and longer to shut down.

OS X :: Backup Restore - Keep Getting Restart Message
Feb 23, 2010I don't know what to do. I just bought a WD Scorpio 320GB 7200 to be installed in my 07 macbook. The operating system is to date with snow leopard on it. But I don't have the snow leopard disc. I have the regular (luckily). Everything was going well. Using disk utility >> I formatted the drive the MAC extended (journaled). I did a restore from Time machine >>> It saw my drive. I picked the restore I wanted. The restore looked good (1 hour process, actually faster). When it said to restart...thats when there's problems. After restart all I see is the 'please restart your computer. You can do this by holding down the power button'. When I restart, it just keeps coming back to this message like the HD is corrupt. But its not corrupt. I don't know what could of caused it. Could it be something to do with me using 10.5 installation disc to restore a 10.6 backed up system?

OS X :: Screen Goes Gray & Message Tells To Restart
Jun 19, 2007I'm frequently getting the problem that: many times the screen goes grey and a message box appears telling me that I have to restart. Often this is preceded by the fans gradually increasing in speed until they are runing at maximum speed. BUT the fans behaving that way is NOT due to overheating. I have to use the restart button to make the Mac restart. I have used reset button to reset the motherboard but that did not cure the problem. Anyone have any ideas about how to cure this problem? I'm running 10.4.9. The mac is a dual 1.8 (June 2004). 1.5GB RAM, two SATA internal HDs (Maxtor), two external firewire HDs (Seagate). All the HDs are less than a year old.

Mac Pro :: Kernel Panic On Screen With Restart Message
Jun 17, 2010I turned up one day to teach using the Mac Pro and the message on the screen said I had to restart my computer. After many times I gave up. I wrongly thought the hard disk failed as one of the pupils saw some water underneath the Mac from the leaking roof. I checked and formatted the hard drive inside a pc and put Windows on it. After inserting the hard drive and the OSX into the dvd drive proceeded to re-install the software, only to find exactly the same problem as before. What to check next before trying to find someone to fix it.
